Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder affecting many people. This condition can be socially and professionally challenging and embarrassing. Sweaty palms or sweaty underarms are the most common forms. It is a result of over-activity of the sympathetic nervous system. Botox is one of the medications that is injected into the affected skin to treat this condition. Botox acts by temporarily blocking neurotransmitters that stimulate sweat production. A decrease in sweat production that can last for up to 6 months is noted after the injections. Most patients will require treatments twice a year.
